A rather slow first few chapters but once I got past that I could hardly put it down. Half saw who the murderer was coming, but that ending was completely unexpected

I am a huge Ann Cleeves fan, and an even bigger 'Vera' fan. Long live Brenda Blethyn. 'The Rising Tide' didn't disappoint. As usual, this 'Vera' story is an easy, intelligent read. It's a gripping, well-paced story. Full of great characters, a great plot and with some very sad parts to this story. I couldn't put it down

I love Ann Cleeves and the Vera series but this one wasn’t my favourite. It isn’t as atmospheric as these books usually are, and felt like it was just one chapter after another of suspect interviews. But still a worthwhile read and a good story overall.
