Murderbot is always wonderful. It's tone is as brilliantly snarky as ever. The plot itself is a fun actiony time, with a satisfying conclusion that echoes the series' overarching themes. But this book is more than anything else about Murderbot and it's personal struggles. It's performance stats aren't at it's best and it really, really hates that.
Seconded that a reread of Network Effect would be a good idea before starting this one. I was a little lost in the beginning.

An even more anxious Murderbot, ART in many pieces and forms, loads of humans needing protection and pure sarcasm. Great new story in the series!

1)Secunit witnesses events /has an idea to move plot forward
2) Secunit has angst (this is okay... But if you like angst you like it and if you don't you don't)
3) humans/art empathise

Rinse and repeat maybe ten times with confusing bits about a memory we only have a hint of (I like one aspect of this: that we find out Secunit has been doing things between the books and it might be a future book or it might just be character growth but damn is it so very confusing when interspersed with the story AND the other memory thing) and confusing memories of something that happened before the story started

Riding on two stars from me right up until the brilliantly written action sequence (as always -one of the best action writers) which is worth 4 stars so they meet in the middle with a big fat 3 star
