Mostly just not in the mood, why I DNF. But the book does feel a little draggy and long and didn’t help.

Tooth-achingly sweet
I could not be more pleased with this book. The worldbuilding was fascinating, the pacing was perfect, and the characters—chef’s kiss! With the power imbalance between the two main characters, and the MMC’s feeding needs, this could have been a real disappointment if consent and boundaries hadn’t been hammered down at every turn—but they were, and it’s delightful. The sweetness and love just leaps off the page. The MMC is the exact opposite of the typical alphahole you expect from the genre, and the FMC is nothing like the usual fare either, given that she is neither too stupid to live nor too horny to function. There was a lot of stuff about the magic system and how it works that I didn’t 100% grasp, but I can definitely see myself rereading to get a better grasp on it, right after I gobble up everything else this author has to offer!

It was honestly a little too much. There was a lot going on and sometimes I didn’t quite understand what because the use of language suggested we’d just know the intricacies of magic and sorcery in this universe. I had read her other book “The Gardener and the Water Horse” and thought it was a little slow so figured this one would be better since it comes after. It wasn’t really. You’d think it’d at least be pretty spicy cause… well cause if it’s name but it isn’t really.
I did really like Saker’s character though (the incubus). I thought he was well written but I ran into a similar issue as the last book where I didn’t really understand or care for the heroine despite how cool I think she should’ve been? She just wasn’t doing it for me.
With all of that being said I don’t think I’d pick this up again. But it was kind of a fun ride even though it was a bit of a drag to get through.

Moderate: Sexual content
Minor: Death, Gore, Blood, Murder, War
Just wasn't captivating. I didn't feel the chemistry and in over 100 pages nothing happened.
