This book gave me insight into what my therapist may be thinking and really gave me tangible ways of thinking about how I can tackle life. I do not see this book as a self help book but in many ways it has lent itself for me to think about my life.

I really enjoyed this book because it felt like you got to know each character the way a therapist gets to know their patient. Each character was complex and multi-faceted. You saw their flaws, but also their humanity in them.

Personally, it is always fascinating to hear about someone’s career trajectory and change because career changes seem like such a hassle. She transitions from Hollywood to medicine, to journalism, then therapy - eventually landing her happy ground as a therapist and a writer.
As a teacher, I am drawn to my career because I get to know (young) people and be part of their growth. Therapy as Lori describes, seems like a more intimate version of getting to know people and helping them grow - that I was actually really drawn into her career as a reader. I wonder how realistic her career depiction is and what she has carefully omitted from her experience as a therapist.
