While the first 3 books in the series can be read as standalones, this 4th book is best enjoyed if you read the previous one. We meet Tim and Nathaniel there, and maybe Tim shows up in book 1 too, though I don't quite remember. It's loosely connected.
I'm starting to realize this series follows a pattern. Every time, the main character is either totally blind, or refuses to acknowledge his own or his love interest's feelings. Either way, it leads to a long and drawn out love story, filled with UST; and sometimes - most likely at the beginning - the MC is going in circles, until he has some inkling as to why is everyone looking at him meaningfully, and by the time that happens, it's almost the end.
Especially book 3 and 4 is very similar in that regard. So it's good to not jump right into this one. However while book 3 felt more YA(ish) to me, this is very much not. So much so, that after half a book of pining when they finally get down and dirty, they getting dooown... ya know what I mean? *ka-ching* It turned out to be quite a sexy book.
The first half was dragging a bit. I liked Tim, he's a feisty one, but he is exhausting. And I really felt the internal monologuing was too much. I also felt frustrated by Nate and the whole town and their stupid rule, really. Just tell Tim already what's what! Jeez!
I liked Nate though. It was interesting to see a big alpha go soft and cuddly with his mate.
No dual pov this time. I mean Tim talked enough for both of them. lol
Oh and this one had the sweetest, cutest "meet my wolf" scene. :)
Overall I enjoyed it. 3.5 starts, not more, not less.

[read in omnibus, reviewing books individually] Took me long enough! There was just too much drawing out and it was just so frustrating how ignorant Tim was. It all works and made sense, but jeeze Louise!! I really wish Nathanial could have said something or someone in town had or SOMETHING. Tim never would have figured out the mate thing on his own, no matter how much instinct and nudges he had going for him. All that frustration aside, I really did like their story. It'd be interesting to see more from them and as their relationship develops, especially involving Silas. I just got stuck for like a month at the car accident and even before then I had slowed down with reading because I was so frustrated by Tim having less than no clue about what was going on between him and Nathaniel. Once their bond was more solid, though, it flowed quickly and I finished it happily.

Rereading this book gives it so much more depth, I swear. I found it absolutely frustrating the first time I read it, but knowing the nuances actually has made a huge difference in my enjoyment and rooting for Nathaniel and Tim to figure their shit out. I still do find it absolutely frustrating that no one explained mates to Tim, even in a theoretical sense, because that lack of knowledge only hurt him and led to him hurting Nathaniel many times, but I do understand it's part of the city of Wolf's Paw. Really hope Albert and Graham can figure their stuff out in the near future because these boys~~ I want all the happy endings!!
Update 7/26/18 - read via audio
Back down to 4 ⭐️ - this book could’ve been a bit shorter and just as good. The last chapter is 3 parts and each is over an hour long!!! I’d also forgotten just how much misogyny and casual ableism there is... something about the audio made it stand out more for me... Still can’t wait for the day we get Graham and Albert’s story!!!

3.5 stars -> I really liked Tim and Nathaniel's story and their dynamic. However, I think the book was too long and I wished that the plot didn't hinge on the truth being kept from Tim.
Nathaniel Neri is the most patient man/werewolf ever and he deserves an award for that
