DID NOT FINISH: 150%

No sense of anything that’s going on . The art style is unique but very not helpful on understanding what’s going on . Characters bad written and genuinely very boring

2 stars feels pretty generous, honestly. It only gets the 2 stars because the art was striking at times. It's never a good sign when you get a character's backstory in the last quarter of the book, especially when it completely halts the ongoing plot. Nothing pulls you out of a story quite like a poorly timed info dump.
Additionally, I found myself skimming through the last 15-20 pages just to see how it ended. This book just feels sloppy—the story, the art, the characters. There were too many times when I'd put the book down and feel completely lost, and that wasn’t necessary at all. I borrowed Volume 2 from the library along with this one, but I won’t be continuing with the series.

A yakuza action story starring the beautiful daughter of the mafia boss, Ryuko.

I don’t typically go for yakuza stories, so perhaps my review is a bit biased. The story line was interesting to me, but at times pretty difficult to follow because of all the flashbacks and multiple overlapping character storylines.

I liked the art style of this manga. It’s very detailed and artistic. That being said, some of the action scenes were a bit tricky to read due to all the ink splotches.

When I first saw Ryuko's cover in Diamond's Previews catalogue back in 2019 I was very intrigued by its cover and summary, plus I'm a real fan of spy stories so I decided to give the series a try.

However, it didn't reach my expectations. Ryuko's Volume 1 is a mess. Although we can get the grasp of the main plot-line, the story keeps going back and forth between present and past, and the action scenes are very close one another before you can become familiar with any of the characters.

The art doesn't help the story either. I have to admit that a few of the panels are beautifully sketched and the faces can at times become very emotional. However most of the time, there are no clear-drawn details, and it gives the impression that there has been ink spilled all over the panels.
