four stars mostly because it just didn't grab me as hard as the others, though i do have some specific gripes (the love triangle does nothing for me, the soul-measuring thing felt... weirdly morally prescriptive for a series so based on giving everyone a second chance and believing in inherent goodness, and the resolution of the darkstalker plot... also feels contradictory to some of the themes so far (
Spoilerlike, you know, the whole "don't use magic to control others" thing that was such a big deal and literally the conflict?
)

HOWEVER. MS. SUTHERLAND REALLY HIT ME WITH
SpoilerWLW ANEMONE
FIVES PAGES FROM THE END?? OKAY. THANK YOU QUEEN o7

Bref. Fiuuu

Book and story line was good but I’m mad about Moon’s choice! It was not what I wanted to happen so I’m in my feelings about that. Looking forward to the next book.

most of the book felt wrong. Qibli was clever as always and managed to find a way around the rules. I don't really like the animus magic stuff but it was done a bit better in this book.

SpoilerI wish Moon didn't feel like she was forced to choose between Qibli and Winter. It's like she thought she needed romance and just randomly chose Qibli. They're good for each other, yes, but i thought moon viewed them as merely friends.

Plus... they seemed to get together reallyyyyy quickly.

Okay, I have never felt so baited in my entire life. I legit thought Clearsight was back and I was screaming. She is my absolute favourite character. Then-

why does she have no personality?!

*sobs* she's not actually in here...

Okay, that aside, the dragons really are just teenagers having a rough time with puberty. dragons have feelings too!
