What if you could go back to a place that brought you so much joy but without the rose colored glasses?

That's the question raised in Wendy, Darling. After years of Neverland being a source of so much joy and pain for Wendy, she's forced to go back when Peter takes her daughter.

I loved seeing Wendy's journey when she's in Neverland as a child, and trying to reconcile with what happened to her when she came back.

The writing was so amazing that I could see/feel what was being described and feel what the characters felt.
This is a definite future re-read for me

I feel like there was a really good and interesting story here but the book itself didn't quite hit the mark. There was a lot that I really enjoyed: the premise, the very dark path Wendy's life took after returning from Neverland and the peace she was trying to find/make for herself with the life she had, the family dynamics. But it felt almost like a stone skipping across the surface wherein it never quite dipped enough below the surface hits to be a truly great and compelling read.

I will be giving HOOKED a chance as well because, again, I feel like the premise is interesting and strong. Maybe WENDY, DARLING serves more as a teaser to the world that A.C. Wise was building here.

DNF @ 41 %.
The only two characters I actually cared about were Michael and Ned. And both were only mentioned in passing as they appeared in recollections by Wendy or Jane. Not enough to keep me reading.

A little too much reflection and internal thoughts for my taste. I love the idea, but the story wasn't keeping me hooked

I really enjoyed this book and going back to the world of neverland. I really enjoyed the dark retelling of Peter Pan as well but that pacing of this book really threw me off. Some things just seemed so repetitive. It almost felt like a chore to pick up the book each time but once I did I enjoyed it for about 20 pages before wanting to put it down again.

I’ve always loved the story of Peter Pan. I thought I’d love a retelling just as much. But I really couldn’t get into hating on Peter. It was well written, but I just wasn’t the right audience. It took me months to finish this book.

It was interesting to see Peter Pan from a grown up, different perspective. I thought the aftermath was interesting to read about and how it affected Wendy in her adult life. I do think that I don’t really agree with the book and how it took place after, but I thought it was intriguing nonetheless.
