I wanted to enjoy this book but frankly, didn't. The writing dragged so much. It took pages for the characters to do anything, and this circular writing sapped the urgency of a mother's search for her daughter. It made me feel disconnected from the characters and the narrative. I also didn't really enjoy how the Indigenous character was written. It was so obviously a product of surface research. A good enough first novel, I suppose, but I skimmed through most of this book and was relieved, rather than saddened, when I reached the end of it.

Dark classic
A.C. Wise rewrites the story of Peter Pan and the children in adventurous Neverland. Wendy has now grown up and is living her everyday life when Peter Pan suddenly appears in her life and kidnaps her daughter Jane.
There is a dark atmosphere that is maintained throughout the book, and the flashbacks to Wendy's past with unpleasant events in a psychiatric institution are described very impressively and reinforce this. The gripping writing style confronts us with the boundaries between good and evil and gives us a glimpse behind the facades of Neverland.
The cover also matches the content of the book and is beautifully designed, including the book cover, so that the overall package is coherent. All in all, I can recommend the book, even if it does become a little tedious at times due to some repetition.
medium-paced
