Summary: Years after her journey to Neverland, Wendy Darling’s life once again intersects with Peter Pan’s. This time, Peter has taken Wendy’s daughter Jane with him to his enchanted world, a world that Wendy knows is a much darker place than Peter would have anyone believe. This retelling follows two separate timelines, one that depicts the trials Wendy faced upon her return to London from Neverland and another that follows Jane’s trip to Neverland and Wendy’s pursuit of her. The book was compelling, but I was underwhelmed by the climax.

I liked the concept better than the execution.

This one had been sitting on my TBR shelf for probably over two years now and boy should i have gotten to it sooner! A hauntingly beautiful take on Peter Pan and the danger that is implied from a boy who refuses to grow up. The story was the perfect encapsulation of trauma: how people do or don't move on and their relationship with their abuser. It is fascinating to see the truly evil side of Peter that is always there if you look at him from the right angle and certainly leaves me with much to think about. The only complaint about the book is that it could be very long winded at times, especially in Wendy's perspective at the beginning of the novel, but a quarter of the way in and really picks up and doesn't stop until the end. Very glad I finally picked this up!

Really repetitive; every action taken was overexplained in the same way, many times before taking it

I had higher expectations for some reason. It was good, but perhaps I was disappointed in some noticeably missing characters. This read like a Lord of the Flies/Peter Pan remix. If you want a gothic Pan book I’d lead you to Brom and not this. I was hoping it to be darker.

A fantastically dark, faerie reimagined Peter Pan story with a grown-up Wendy and her daughter. Highly recommend.
