This is the first book in a long time that I was not able to put down. Excellent storyline, great world building and wonderful characters. I can’t wait for book 2 because that was quite some cliffhanger.

I write this review well after I read the book. I really wanted to like this--and I really did like this--but is was so obviously plagiarized that it wasn't even funny. This story was good because it was an incredibly obvious rip from VE Schwab's Shade of Magic series. There are many other concepts taken from other authors in the sphere. This is past the level of inspiration and literally enters the space of stealing names, entire plot lines, towns, and world-building from other authors. Even coming from someone who is a fan of Cassandra Claire's works in the Mortal Instruments universe, this is crazy. Also, this is not the first time that she has been caught, called out, and eventually sued for doing this to other authors.

I fully did not realize this was a series and now I have to wait for the next one lol. This was so good! I felt like the characters were all well developed and I was so invested in how their stories intersected. I think the world building was well done, and each of their motivations made sense to me. I struggled a bit with the interjections each chapter of old texts to add to world building, I felt like I forgot what each said before getting to the next one. Excited to see what happens next!

I was listening to the audiobook so I got a little confused at times but overall I enjoyed listening to it. I think for me to give it a detailed review I would have to read a physical copy. But there isn’t anything that I remember that I really disliked it was a good book. 

Edit: I lowered my rating, I initially had it at 4 because I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt since I was listening to it but other people seem to feel the same way so I don’t feel as bad now.
