Rae Sutton’s husband has been having an affair with a younger woman and shortly after finding out about the affair, her mom dies. Struggling with rejection, loss and depression she moves back home into her moms old house. She navigates life as a single mom in a small town. She makes new friends with her mom’s friends who encourage her to go back to church and listen to the Lord. It’s a beautiful story of redemption, forgiveness and faith. I gave it four starts because I felt like the ending could have been better.

Do not recommend this if you are not a Christian. Very Christianity forward.

I’d say 3.5… nice story, but I listened to it and the narrator wasn’t the best at mens voices or old lady voices. I’d probably preferred to have read it. Sweet story about forgiveness, but almost a bit too sweet.

Clunky religiously tinged dialogue, lots of praying on decisions and the worst ending. Don’t bother

The group of eccentric women in Rae Sutton’s life gave me major #SteelMagnolias vibes. I loved listening to the women argue, plot and pray together and they are exactly what Rae needed after her mother died.

.
Rae has lost her beloved mother and her marriage fell apart leaving her untethered. She returns back to her home town and her old house and takes her mom’s spot in her book club/ministry/gossip circle. These women know how to pull each other up and Rae finds strength among them to put the pieces of her life back together.
.
This was a heartwarming book with a southern voice. Huge thank you to #thomasnelson and #NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was a sweet southern story about grief and healing, but it was entirely too religious for me.

Read it you like fried green tomatoes, fudge rounds, and Dr. Pepper.

What I enjoyed:
• The crew of old ladies had great banter.
• The letters from Rae’s mother.
• Rae’s daughter, Molly.
• The home renovation/upcycling stuff.
• Kent was such a great guy.

What didn’t work for me:
• Heavy on the religious content; I highly disliked the ending and I feel sure that if this wasn’t a Christian book it wouldn’t have gone in that direction.
• I didn’t enjoy the narrator for the audio (the way she did the old ladies’ voices was cringe).
• Carter was the worst and super manipulative.

This book was a great book. It was a breath of fresh air compared to my romance and thriller novels. This novel followed the life of recent divorcee Rae Sutton and her daughter Molly. Rae’s mother recently passed away and Rae inherits the house. She decides to fix it up & starts going to church. She relies on the family she received by surprise and grows closer to God and herself.
