I struggle to find words for the emotions that I feel for this book. All I can think to write is that it reads like a love letter to youth. A love letter to finding yourself, to change, to thinking the way a kid thinks while being tasked with making amends in a more adult way. A love letter to friendship, to wonder, and dealing with the emotions of childhood that don’t (and shouldn’t) dissipate. Himawari House is everything in interim, a house for a year in a country far from home, and stands for the entire interim of no longer being a child but not yet feeling like an adult. I adore this book.

This is really cute! I’m not a huge fan of graphic novels but I enjoyed reading this, especially because it had so many languages and accents attributed to diverse and well rounded characters. Slice of life is one of my favorite genres so I was happy to explore life with these characters as they navigated something foreign to them. It was also interesting to get perspectives from international students, since I will be in a similar place in a few months!

Une histoire touchante, de 3 jeunes femmes en quête de sens dans leur vies. Chacune avec ses propres difficultés. Chacune vient d'ailleurs et elles se retrouvent dans cette maison en colocation, une belle histoire d'amitié aussi. Ça parle aussi des difficultés à s'intégrer, des problèmes de diaspora, de se trouver quand on a l'impression de devoir être ce que nos parents attendent de nous...
Le dessin est doux, les thèmes sont abordés avec beaucoup de douceur aussi et de bienveillance. Le tout en langues multiples. C'était vraiment bien. Comme si j'y étais !
