dark fast-paced

The dialogue is odd and fun. It’s stilted in a way that seems almost robotic. Characters are so frequently talking past each other that it gives the whole affair a detached, dreamy feel.

Holy Death Drive, Batman!

I LOVED this 'minor' novel. The dark humor was spot on. Spark complicated the reader's expectations of the novel by withholding Lise's motivation for plotting her murder. We never get inside Lise's head. The flash forwards were disconcerting, but added to the surreal nature of the text. The tense also contributed to the book's innovation.
