(I read a copy of the 'Advance Uncorrected Proofs' that I found in a bookstore in New Mexico in 2006 (the store gave it to me) so I was left wondering what might've been different in the published version, but I wasn't enough interested to read it again to find out.)

Brooks does a solid job of continuing the March story without minimizing the original. It's gonna take me some time to understand how I feel about Mr. March because I felt like he spent most of the time holding to principles that he could've actively lived out instead of meditating on them, but given that the research into his character came from Bronson Alcott's life, it made sense.
Now she needs to write one from Marmee's perspective, because I would read 600 pages of Marmee just going ham on other people. I want WWE-level antics. "Here comes Marmee with the chair!" Literally IDEAL.

(The shoutout to her husband, the great Tony Horwitz, was just delightful in the afterword. What a power couple.)

Wonderful point of view and entrancing story

Finished out of sheer will. I have really enjoyed some of her other novels, but this one treaded on the hollow ground of Little Women, and not lightly. No thank you.

This was a wonderful book that will stay with me for some time.

This book was a hard sell for me to begin with. Little Women is one of my all time favorites and I really don’t care about Mr. March’s perspective that much. However it was a book club pick so I thought I’d give it a try.

I never really loved it, but the moment March started complaining about Marmee’s fiery spirit and mentioned how we was trying to “quench” it, I was out.

That’s a no for me, dog.
