It brings to mind books like Twilight, but better.

When a series of school nurse "suicides" occurs, teenagers Pepper and Olivia know their dad will get to the bottom of things. After all, he is the sheriff.

However, the Hunter family arrives on the scene with the intention of solving the case. In doing so, they completely shatter everything the girls thought they knew, totally shaking up their grasp on reality.

These cases aren't what they seem and as the girls discover a world of monsters truly exists, as well as discovering their possession of unique abilities, chaos and death ensues leaving them to face dangers they could have only dreamt of.

With a healthy amount of slow burn romance, teen angst, death and monsters, this story takes you on a wild ride. I enjoyed Claire's writing and look forward to experiencing more.

Oh this had me hooked from the first page!! It’s an amazing monster hunting story filled with action, the supernatural, and mystery- with a bit of a slow burn romance thrown in. Such a captivating read - I really want book 2 right now! If you liked The Luminaries you will LOVE this! I received an advanced copy of this from NetGalley all opinions are my own

Hunterland was available as a Read Now audiobook on NetGalley and I had actually heard about it closer to when it came out last year and had added it to my TBR, but I am such an audiobook addict that having it available as an audiobook helped me actually get to reading it! Hunterland is recommended to anyone who likes Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Vampire Diaries and considering two of those shows are my all-time favorites I knew I needed to read this book. I definitely agree it is very Supernatural-esque and Liam is for all those Dean Winchester stans! I’d call Olivia an Elena, Jack is a total Charlie (both females with traditionally male names and I love it!), and Pepper is a cross between Dawn and Dark Willow.

The storyline was fun, the romance worked, and the characters were interesting. I wouldn’t say this book was a standout, but it was four stars and it was such a quick read. As for the audiobook aspect, I wasn’t a huge fan of Arielle DeLisle’s narration. I felt her variation in voices wasn’t as ranged as I’m used to from other narrators, especially the male voices. I was surprised that Travis Baldree is an audiobook narrator as well! His portion wasn’t bad, but it did feel a little lackluster.

At first I was not a fan of any of the characters but by the end I grew to love most of them, especially Jack. Jack seems to genuinely care about everyone's best interest and is not afraid to let anyone know how she feels but stops short of being controlling. This was my second book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised this one had more depth to it and development of relationships between characters felt more genuine with multiple layers. I really enjoyed this one.

This was such a cool book. I loved the Paranormal aspects of it and how all the elements of it came together.

I also really enjoyed the narrators of the audio book and how they gave live to the characters in the book. It gave an element of depth to each character that highlighted them in a different way then just reading them off paper!

Book received from NetGalley!
Was pretty good overall. Some of the relationship sections made me cringe but they were definitely aimed at a younger audience, especially Liams perspective. It wasn’t enough to put me off. Nice easy read. Reminded me of the buffy era of tv with a side of vampires. 👍🏻

I have read a handful of books by author, Dana Claire and really enjoy them. This book is no exception. It kind of gave me the television show, Supernatural vibes. Which I am a fan of. I do want to point out that this book is geared towards young adult readers, and it did come off that way to me. Not that I as an adult did not enjoy this book, but I just know the targeted reading audience will enjoy it more.

This is not your standard vampire book. It had some mystery surrounding the deaths of the various teachers. Which I liked the mystery aspect of this book. Every character had a purpose in the story. That is something that I like about Dana's books is that her characters are engaging and while reading it is like the stories come alive as mini movies in my head. If you are looking for your next great read, then you should pick up a copy of this book!
