well stuff me in a piñata, throw me off a cliff and consider me bamboozled, this book darn fùcked me up.
when I said I enjoyed whisper, it does not compare to how much I adored this book. Listen, I’m not gonna lie - whisper was okay, a bit cliche and predictable but not bad. This however was one of the rare sequels that fully outshone the first book!
I can fully say, with my whole chest, that this ending had me doing backflips. Of course not physically, but emotionally every organ in my body was doing somersaults. While the larger plot points were somewhat easy to predict (the betrayal, the parents, what SCARS was), the intricacies of the final showdown were so artfully constructed. I really appreciated how many questions and unknowns were left and teased throughout the book (that really kept me hooked), only for them all to be solved so well in the final scene - like a little bow for the end of the book.
I will say though, Alyssa was perhaps the most infuriating protagonist. I felt that so many times she blindly charged into everything, with no care or reasoning. Like, hey I’m a mediocre, barely controlled creator but it’s such a great idea for me to plan my own heist on this facility.
also, what is it with ya book characters and not communicating properly with one another? Why do you all want to suffer in silence & try to work things out by yourself - the time taken to solve half of their problems could’ve been minimised so much of people actually talked to one another and relied on them. She had me tearing on my hair at times.
SPOILERS AHEAD
As for Kael: I was truly team kael all along and that ending - cut my fucking heart out why don’t you. his and his father’s ability to be ruled by their grief for so long, so much so that they would kill and torture, and for what? I felt like his reasoning was so twisted and it made know sense. no remorse or guilt? he really spat on his mum’s grave.
some of my favourite quotes
“keep dreaming, Landon.”
“I already am.”
Your mind is the most powerful weapon of all.
I’m not okay. But I will be.
May you already know that you are loved and appreciated;may you always understand that your words are powerful, and that they are needed.
Be the voice of your generation,
And remember:
One word could change the world.

THE PLOT TWISTS WERE SO GOOD, I really liked the story. It was so YA though I didn’t even get a kiss but the romance subplot was good I liked it. A really interesting story, resilience, finding power within. Ending was satisfying enough
