It has the perfect balance of action and emotion without getting too stuck in the main character's head. All of the supporting characters are lovely. The ending is also one of my favorites. It resolves without any sort of cliff hanger, but the attachment to the characters has grown so much that I can't wait to dive into the next book. The relationship between the two leads is a banter filled, nearly enemies to lovers, slow burn.
The only thing I don't like is how cartoony the villains of the book end up looking since their motivations for being evil are so weak, but the rest of the book is so strong I don't really care by the end of it. It doesn't help that I'm far from being in the YA demographic, so I can't hold that against the book. High school me would have eaten this book up entirely.

✨REVIEW✨
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I picked this book up because I’d heard a lot of great things about other books by the same author and wanted something easy to listen to, which is exactly what this book gave me.
I get why some people feel it is similar to Twilight but I feel the story is quite different.
Is it the best YA romance I’ve ever read? No, probably not. Some elements were a bit problematic (which is a recurring issue in most YA romance novels) but overal I actually enjoyed listening to Obsidian.
It was an original, fun and easy read and I’m excited to see what the rest of the series is going to be like!
TW: sexual assault, absent parent, abusive relationship

Woah this book was hot! The sexual tension between Katy & Daemon was off the charts!
I didn't know what to think for a few chapters, but then once I got in I was hooked. Katy was an awesome character, someone I think a lot of girls can relate to. She loves books, blogging and hot shirtless guys. She's also very smart, brave and loyal. Then there's Daemon, oh my I know why he's from outer space because there's no-one on Earth who can be that hot!
The idea is very unique in young adult - aliens of light and dark is a new thing I've never read before. Jennifer Armentrout has done a fantastic job of sucking me in and now I'm craving more!
One small thing that I'm being very picky about it the science behind parts of the story, it's never really explained. Just because the characters don't care to understand how things work, we as readers are left wondering. It feels like a bit of a cop out on the author's behalf, that she didn't want to look into the science.

9/27/20 Bumping this up to 4.5 stars because I just started book 2 and had such a warm and fuzzy feeling from reading these characters again! I also might reread the first book after reading Onyx, because I bet thing will look different...

OKAY. So I had this review all typed out, but of course, when I submitted it GOODREADS DECIEDED TO GO DOWN. I am not going to try and retype out everything that I was trying to say because I can't even remember everything I said.
I don't five star a lot of books. With that being said:
Read this book.
