Decided to give our girl Ruby another try with a book that isn’t dominated by big horny blue alien men. This one was actually pretty okay! Ruby can write, I can’t deny that! 

She does participate in my most hated fantasy trope in this book (using tan characters with “foreign” or “barbaric” cultures as a replacement for people of color) so I can’t give her a glowing review.

I was very into this premise and liked seeing an older woman/younger man for once, but sadly this didn't hit quite right for me. I enjoy almost all of Ruby's books so it was a bit surprising. The whole thing felt a bit rushed. Her orc novella was very enjoyable so I know it's not a 'novella thing.' Ah well — onto the next!
