In this story, Journey shows up very suddenly to Red’s place after spending years and years traveling the world and blogging about his experiences, rattled by the news of his uncle’s passing and unexpectedly inheriting the man’s farm. Faced with the choice of ending his career or selling the farm, Journey decides he might be ready for some changes in his life, and Red immediately goes all in on seeing the man he has always loved find peace, success, and happiness. On top of switching gears from his life’s work and livelihood, Journey also has a bi-awakening to juggle, and all his very sudden awareness of his lifelong best friend is highly confusing to him. 

I don’t really have a whole lot to say about this one. It’s a perfectly charming addition to the Four Bears and Big Bulls world, and while it doesn’t stand out as particularly unique among the lot, I did enjoy the supporting cast of animals. I get the feeling that most people wouldn’t abandon the animals they’ve been helping to care for for over 20 years into the hands of two city schlubs who don’t know the first thing about anything; even if I was desperate to move on, I’d like to know that the animals I knew and loved were not going to experience unintentional neglect through ignorance. But I guess the story couldn’t story if the guys were given any amount of proper orientation, right? 

This book has representation for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and demisexuals. There is otherwise little else in the way of diversity.
