I think Adrian Tchaikovsky is one of those authors who I realize are excellent and creative writers, but whose work just doesn't do it me. This is the highest rating I've given of the three books of his that I've read, and I'm being a bit generous because I liked the concept he was going for more than my reading experience.

This has a coupe of things I'm not a huge fan of in fantasy (or any other genre, really): it's pretty short, and it takes place in a sort of Victorian era society. It doesn't change anything that it's a magical society. However, the concept of made things is an interesting one the story was fast paced and kept me reading to find out where it was going.

Excellent novella! Reading Precious Little Things on Tor.com prior to reading this book gives some good back story into the "puppets". I highly recommend reading both books.

A wonderful story about small wonders. Great characters, intriguing story line. The setting is very trope-y but that doesn't diminish the accomplish in any way.

What I love about Adrian is that all of his books are so vastly different in idea, style and scope. Very cool.
