This was a cute, clever, enjoyable read.

Writing: Excellent
Characters: Developed, likeable, adorable
World Building: Immersive for a novella, I was surprised how much he crammed in in so few words.

This book didn't change my life, but I had such a great time reading it and want to share it with my kids (though I should probably wait until they're a bit older). I'm hoping there are sequels in the works because I want to spend more time in this world.

This was a fun little novella. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised with the world building and manikins being so interesting and the stakes being so relatively high. Overall, this was a fun short time but I do think it was a bit ... dense and I do feel as though it would have benefited from being a bit longer? More fleshed out? I definitely want to read some of Adrian Tchaikovsky's full length novels to see what he's like for a longer story.

I don't know what's happening and it's frustrating me. This is a personal failing, not the book's fault. I think I just need to pick it up at a different time

A quick read. I thought there would be more with the mc's thieving background but the direction it took was also interesting.

Love the lady and Shabby's rapport at the end.

A cool little novella about an underground society of sentient marionettes in a world brimming with magic. Most humans have a touch of magic, and those with the most (or the money to buy enough enchanted trinkets to be convincing), rule over the rest. Entertaining with an honest ending.
