I would recommend it to fans of Clive Barker or Hellraiser.

I've seen this book in multiple 'the most disturbing books' list, and that's why I wanted to read it. It was disturbing, but not as much as I thought it would be. I do understand why it was written under a pseudonym, though.

Read this to understand why Bjork exalted it so much. I don’t think I appreciated it as much as she did.

This book is beyond NSFW but it's not exactly a one-handed affair, either-- reads less like a novel and more like a piss-soaked fever dream of the most deranged sex scenes someone could conjure up. I wonder if audiences 100 years ago had to stop and laugh at what can feel like gratuitous obscenity, but ultimately I enjoyed the ride and found the glimmers of Bataille's mysticism quite haunting.
