Seeing a timeline of the mammals since the days of the end-Permian was surreal, and how mammals evolved all the traits that make them what they are today. Only one chapter foced on the Homo species, which is fine by me, there are a lot of books that focus on those.

I really love the little fictitious stories the author comes up with for fossils, very cute.

I didn’t find this as interesting as the rise and the fall of the dinosaurs and I found it pretty dry. I still learned some interesting Dino facts though

A very comprehensive overview of mammal evolution, from humble non-mammal beginnings to now. Brunette is an excellent and engaging writer, and I especially appreciated him emphasising the contributions of people who are often left out of science history (women, people of colour, native populations whose lands were ransacked to collect fossils, etc.). This was obviously thoroughly researched with a real wealth of sources provided to pour through if you find one area especially interested. Yet another book that makes me wish I'd stuck with my childhood dream of becoming a paleontologist.
