[read in the German translation by Tabitha von Bonin]
This was a fun little children's book. However, the detective did not do anything by thinking. He just kind of knew what was going on and what the bad guys were planning without ever explaining his thought process to the reader, and whenever he was in trouble, he had a useful never-before-mentioned gadget at hand or used ventriloquism instead of tricking the enemies somehow within the realms of possibility of a normal human. What compels me about detective stories is that bit at the end where Sherlock Holmes reveals all the clues hidden in the text that led him to the criminal, which is sadly missing completely from this book. But it was a quick and fun read, and it must also be considered that my age quite removes me from the target audience.
