I’m always so bad at reviews bc I don’t know how to not go overboard. But this one deserves it. This book is sweet and sad and so good. Morgan writes about some really hard things, and everything was given respect and honor, while having an undercurrent of hope. I went on this journey of healing with Grace, and come out of it a better person. Stories like this are so important, not only bc of the honesty about mental health, but also the constant reminders that community is everything. Found family is everything. We can stand alone in the face of a world that wasn’t created for us, and be eaten up by the hardness and the hurt. Or we can lean on those we love, trusting them to always stand with us, as best they can. In the end, our best is what we’re able to give while remaining true to ourselves. And that will always be enough.

Morgan, thank you a thousand times for this story. For the bravery in your characters, for the fight to be seen that you gave absolute justice to, for talking about queerness in more ways than one, and for acknowledging that things are hard and they do suck sometimes. From one lonely creature to another lonely creature - thank you.

Read this book! You won’t regret it.

In a world where two beautiful women wake up to find out that they had gotten drunkenly married in Las Vegas, while only having met the night before! This was such a thrill to read!

Overall, this is a super cute, sapphic read! Definitely, such a great way to kick off this year's pride!!

I cannot for the life of me give Honey Girl a 4 star rating. I want to because I related to some of the mental healing.  But  when it comes to the self-care at many points it felt like avoidance when there were other characters , humans who  cared about  Grace Porter  willingly and able to listen. Thing is  not everyone has or will get that. Which is the flaw of the major progress  she has for me .

I was patient reading while Grace recovers from being a perfectionist who has a plan laid out for her.  One she has been focused on through her late teens and entire twenties.  Not to mention recovery from the expectations by her military black dad. And a nomadic mom , whose white, that left her all alone with these pressures.

But she has some tendencies that are straining her relationships. Most often when she gets afraid or overwhelmed and runs from Portland to New York City   and then  Sansbury, Flordia. It happen every tim  she felt the urge to be stubborn and wanted to push her family away. Even those  she met over the years.

I'm all for space but she completely didn't  let anyone who understood know what was going on with her .  Which is okay for someone who has the pressure of a career goal. But a the same its like not like everyone has it together. Like has a full on PhD and those ready to be supportive about  the issues  in one academic  program.  But maybe if this was me after eleven years of my life I'd understand it better.

I absolutely adore this book. I can't even explain how much.

I read this book because I saw it had a fanfiction trope and i needed a silly light read. It's pretty self-explanatory that a book with this prompth will be cute, and it is in many ways. I love the dynamics of having to get to know your wife, specially when you don't live in the same city. Their funny little chats with each other. That they joke of divorce and wills. I do that with my best friend that I'm kinda married to. And with my best friend I am married to. They also have these cute and reflective phone calls that just warms my heart.

I love all the friends in this book the most, they're extremely well written, dimensional characters. Found family as far as the eye can see. She makes me want better friends. The way book shows platonic love is gorgeous. Platonic love in books, and in real life is very underrated. The language used makes you warm when you read it. Some would call it sickly-sweet, but it's balanced by real life struggles.

Grace as a character are extremely relatable to me, how she's so focused on the path and finishing your degree and then to realise when you are on the other side that you don't know what to do now. How that can really affect you mentally, I see myself in that, specially since she's experiencing it as a 29 year old.

So, even though I went into this book thinking I would just read a lighthearted-book with a fanfic trope, and it definitely was a lot more than that, it was an amazing read.

The whole book just makes me feel bigger than myself. Read it!

This was a really really lovely dive into character/personal growth and identity. The prose was simply gorgeous, and the characters are so wonderfully complex and real. I really enjoyed the balance of romance with personal growth and familial/friend relationships. No one's perfect, no one's a villain; we're all just trying our best and failing each other and ourselves sometimes, but we can always grow and do better. We can do best, whatever that looks like for us.

These lonely creatures absolutely stole my heart ❤❤

I really liked this book. There was one moment that was cringey, but overall I could relate to the themes of loneliness and lostness. I do not think I would have rated it so high if I were at a different point in life. But as a Black grad student who is leaving her PhD program, it was kind of reassuring that the academy is trash. Also I love a sapphic romance with a Black lead.
