I felt like this lacked a bit of story. It was just sex for the sake of sex and the story wasn’t really apparent until towards the end. I liked the writing style, but the plot fell a little flat for me.

This was very much a page-turner for me. And I’m still surprised by that to be fair - bc “white woman is unhappy“ isn’t always done well or interestingly tbh (e.g. forced relatability or she’s just spoiled). So I don’t reach for those stories often, but I though this one had a bit of a twist to that and the contrasts of rich/poor was the focal point in many aspects.
A flawed main character - a general thing with these ppl and realistic, and some you really “disliked” with a passion. Enjoyed how and what we got to know about her.

- I really wish the blurb said less btw. At least the penultimate paragraph needs to go… I try to only read the first paragraph in the blurb and then I might read more of it once I’m “in” the story, otherwise I feel it spoils the fun of exploring when you first sit down with it if you know too much or the blurb takes your expectations in the wrong/an unnecessary direction.

Anyway, there’s loads of sex, hence the erotica descriptor. Which I think explains (at least to some degree) the “low” rating bc some ppl are just a bit prudish when you read through some of the reviews, let’s be honest….
I’d say a very intriguing, exciting and frustrating story about actually considering our worth and self-esteem.

(A few things said e.g. about ending your life that I wasn’t too sure about in terms of phrasing though.)
THRILLED that Nadia came back into her life and she seemingly made some great (conscious) choices in the end. Love that for her.

2.5 Stars. This was very stop-start for me and I think the book could have benefited from trigger warnings at the beginning (specifically on eating disorders, sexual abuse and emotional abuse). The spice was fun and very descriptive, the character often stated what characters were wearing and it helped flesh out a lot of the scenes. The ending took me by surprise since I really did not see that coming, but I think I liked it. Violet was so naïve, immature, and completely lacked charm - which I think is why I took so long to finish this book. But that being said, I did like Violet for wanting more than what she had and exploring what she could get. I also appreciated how Violets flaws let the reader get carried away in her adventures, I for one did not expect the dark tone which appears in the later third of the book and I think it added a lot more complexity to the earlier sections.

Very dull and I just don’t care enough to find out how the rest of the book goes.

This was a difficult read, I expected far more from this book. It was a typical millennial existential crisis ending in a happily ever after love which, in some ways, was obvious from the beginning but it also had me hoping that it wouldn’t. It promised a seductive read but it was just a weird trigonometry, third wheel, not respected, strange play on middle aged sex parties.

The naïveté and frankly poor judgment on Violet’s part was unnerving. She constantly settled for what she thought she deserved. A line which especially stood out to me was when she said all she wanted to do was ‘curl up at the end of Simon and Lottie’s bed’ like some kind of stray cat. I wanted to give her a kick up the backside to make her realise what she was doing.

In theory, this book should have been brilliant, sexy, seductive, but really it tried to pack more into those pages than the author had time to explore, disappointing.
