Kingfisher once again writes a compelling and exciting story that hold me in a vice grip even after closing the back cover and putting it back on my shelf. The artful avoidance of cliches and intense imagery made me want to peel apart my skin <and check for signs of mold>.

I really liked this retelling. I think it was an interesting exploration of the original story. The mystery aspect was kind of easy to guess but I didn’t mind that.  It was cool to see the characters figure out what you’ve already put together. I really thought that the way the mysterious aspects of the original were explained was also cool. However I thought the ending was a little anticlimactic and rushed. Overall it was a good short read I’d recommend

This novella is a retelling of Edgar Allan Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher and follows the same broad strokes of that story's plot. This is a horror story and does have some creepy parts, but there's an overall cheerful tone to most of it that makes it a quick easy read.
