Such a great book, and sequel, and I can't wait to read more! We learned so much about these characters and this world, and I want to know more!

Original rating: 3 stars
Reread rating: 3 stars

Grave Dance had a really rough beginning. I'm not sure why Alex seemed so incompetent during the first half, but she kept getting herself into dangerous situations due to her inability to connect the dots and think Real Thoughts. The plot did get a lot better during the second half as the mystery started to unravel, though, and I really enjoyed getting to learn a little bit more about the courts.

Things I could have done without: the romance.

I love the characters, but in some places there is too much description used, causing parts of the story to drag on.

Alex Craft's story continues and this part is packed with action, interesting magic and an intriguing mystery.

A weird case that Alex is asked to consult with the police on begins a series of events that gets her unwillingly but unavoidably more entwined with the fae world. She is growing into her powers,
Spoilerwhich are in turn growing as she becomes more fae,
and she has to learn the hard way how to use them.

Things are complicated in her personal life, with Falin reappearing after an unexplained absence and Death changing the rules of their relationship, and while I like Death and would like to know more about him,
Spoilerthe love triangle between them feels a little unnecessary
.

Regardless, I am curious to see what direction the story will take and I look forward to reading the next book in the series, [b:Grave Memory|12620451|Grave Memory (Alex Craft, #3)|Kalayna Price|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327930692s/12620451.jpg|17649917].

There is a short story preceding it in the anthology [b:Kicking It|15980677|Kicking It (Alex Craft, #2.5; Chicagoland Vampires, #8.25)|Faith Hunter|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1364324827s/15980677.jpg|21732927], but I am not sure if I am going to read it since Alex isn't in it from what I understand and it doesn't seem to be important to the timeline of the story.

Expanded the world, but expanded the love triangle.

Whey you gotta play me like this!

I loved it sooo much!!!!! It is fast-paced, has an interesting plot, and the characters are awesome. What an amazing series!

rogue007's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH

Stopped at 40%. I don't know... something about the writing that made me not care about the characters this time around. The love triangle seemed poorly executed. The plot got bogged down by to many unnecessary details and awkward flow. I got the feeling that Death was not fleshed out as a character because Falin was clearly made to be the top runner in the story. Falin doesn't hold my interest and Death seemed way to puppy doggish for someone called DEATH!

Yet again, this series has been showing me a good time! I kind of miss the ghost/spirit/ mystery-solving aspect of this particular volume, but I also greatly enjoy learning more about the different realms and Faerie. I'm really excited to see what's going to happen next in the series.

I guess that the only thing that took me out of this fun experience was that some of the plot points and events in this novel don't get covered or explained after the fact (they'll probably be explained in later novels, but it seemed like a lot of little things added up--I guess what I'm saying is that there a good deal of tiny, loose ends). Oh, and maybe some more backstory on the big baddy(ies) of the book would have been nice.

Otherwise, I have books 3 and 4 in my library just ready to be listened to.

Good continuation of the series, but probably my least favorite so far of the three books of the series that I have read. I didn't find the sister to be a particularly interesting character so I didn't care much about what happened to her. The big bad in this book had kind of a mafia flavor to him to me and that is really not up my alley.

I'm cheating a bit by writing this immediately after reading Grave Memory (#3), which easily became my favorite of the three. I really appreciate the original story elements and plots and look forward to continuing with this series.

Liked it alot. Story was interesting and am sad for Alex, Death and Falin hope book 3 is even better
