A good read. Loved that the main character is deaf.

Oh, wow, I loved this book! I selected it because the protagonist has significant hearing loss. As an audiologist, I was curious to see how the author "treated" this character. Clearly, she knows and understands hearing loss. The character is authentic and believable and his struggles are genuine. Behind the main character is a good story. A mystery that had me guessing several possibilities, all of which I got completely wrong. I love it when a book surprises me. I will be watching for more from Viskic.

The characters are well-drawn, the writing crisp and engaging. And the premise - a hearing-impaired private eye, is really interesting. And while the plot drew me anxiously to the conclusion, I remain unconvinced that the level of violence expressed could ever be associated with the relatively minor crime that is at the center of all the murderous activity. I'll give Zelic and Viskic another try, and remain hopeful that plotting will improve with experience. BTW, I bought this at the wonderful Gene's Book Shop in Sanibel FL. Worth the trip if you're anywhere near.

3.5-Read this in a day! Loved Caleb’s unique POV (Deaf MC’s are so rare and I am here for it) but the mystery itself fell a bit flat.

A deftly handled plot, strong characters and a sly, dry humour make this an outstanding debut crime novel. - Review at Newtown Review of Books

I found the plot difficult to follow and overly convoluted. Almost didn’t finish it. The protagonist was deaf and well portrayed, especially in his interactions with friends, reluctance to tell others, and fear when he lost the environmental awareness his hearing aids provide.

Resurrection Bay is Emma Viskic's debut novel.

I'm glad I finally got around to reading it, as it was utterly gripping.
I loved Caleb Zelic's character, with his anxieties and struggles.
The writing appealed to me a great deal.
I never suspected who were the baddies, not that it's the main draw card for me to enjoy this genre, I'm more interested in character development and the writing.

This novel had the right pace, the right amount of pages, the plot was credible enough (well, one could argue there were too many killings, especially for Australia, but anyway ...).

So, yeah, I'm glad to discover another good Australian thriller. I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the follow-up novel (got the eARC).

One of the better crime books I've read in ages - fast-paced, tense, great characters and lines that made me laugh out loud. I read it in two sittings and wished it wasn't over.
