Elizabeth Taylor is always surprising. The characters are drawn so precise and believably and, while the story itself is barely there, it’s a compelling book.

You know those books where you don't feel any investment to any of the characters? And where nothing seems to happen?

This was one of those books.

If you like fast paced books this is not for you as nothing really happens but I really enjoyed it. I love charecter driven novels and really like getting in to people's heads and trying to understand their relationships and why they do certain things. I thought all the charecters were interesting in their own way. Whereas the ending was, I think, the right one for Kate, I'm not sure I liked how it was achieved. I've never read Elizabeth Taylor before but I will certainly read more of her work. Her writing is sublime and has plenty of wit.

Another great Taylor title, equally amusing and affecting, with a sucker-punch at the end.
