I’m a little sad that this is the next to last Cork book published. And knowing that the next one is a prequel is bittersweet. But this was another well told story.

I’ve read all of the Cork O’Connor series to this point and have enjoyed them. But in the previous novel, Sulfur Springs, Kreuger inserted a political stance into the series and a political stance appeared in this story as well. I don’t mind authors making political observations but I don’t want to read an author’s political opinions interspersed in a novel. I don’t want it invading my reading escape.

It may not be the best idea to jump into a series with book #17, but this was well-written, atmospheric, and satisfying.

It is fun seeing the characters grow up, but I am not ready for Henry to pass.

A 4.5...another captivating Cork O'Connor story. And...leaves us hankering to read the next one with the last words.
