I found this really engrossing, but, then, it's exactly the kind of book I like: character-driven, with a plot twist that made sense to me given what I knew about the characters. It was refreshing to read a mystery/thriller that focuses on creating characters who feel like real humans so that when plot stuff happens, it has real impact, rather than plot-driven "pageturners" where the characters only do what they do because the plot demands it.
For once, I didn't see the plot twist coming--and I don't think this is because I'm necessarily good at spotting plot twists, but because so many mysteries and thrillers rely on utterly predictable plot twists. I also felt like this book trusted me enough that it didn't need to belabor its clues, a habit many thrillers and mysteries have that I find extremely annoying and condescending.

This was not at all what I thought it was going to be, but it did have some great writing. I did hate that chapters were so long and the page breaks with the different characters perspectives wasn’t quite enough for me. Just made it hard to read this when I only had a few moments

I liked this immensely, kept me guessing the whole time and the characters were all unlikable in the best kind of way. You can't wait to see everything crash and burn. I guess the only thing keeping me from giving this a higher rating is I found the ending to be very weak. There isn't a ton to read after the conclusion is revealed, but it could have been much stronger. Left me kind of confused if I'm being honest. Also it was kind of hard to remember whether we are in the past or present, it does clarify it at but I found myself forgetting because it flip flopped so much, but it obviously wasn't too much of a problem because overall I had a really fun and compelling adventure reading this book :)
