How many ways can I say I loved this book. This is not normally something I would pick up as I generally stick to stories with some element of magic, but it was my book club's read for the month. How pleasantly surprised was I to find that there was a different kind of magic in Robin Wall Kimmerer's series of essays.

“How, in our modern world, can we find our way to understand the earth as a gift again, to make our relations with the world sacred again?”

Her balance between science and poetry really shine through in Braiding Sweetgrass. The syntax was so organic that if felt like I was sitting around a fire listening to her speak rather than reading a series of essays so it definitely hit my 'escape' box that is required in all of my higher rated books.

My book had SO MANY annotations and flags because the way she speaks and thinks about the world is so refreshing. This book really opened my eyes on how beautiful Indigenous thinking is in general, but Kimmerer is particularly masterful at presenting it. Themes of reciprocity and love are overarching throughout the book, leaving me with a completely new view of the world at the end.

I immediately recommended (read: forcefully threatened that they need to read it ASAP) to all of my friends. If I could give more stars I totally would.

I can't imagine reading a better book this year. Really resonated and connected with me. Completely gorgeous - poetic whilst being informative.

Going to have to re-read it multiple times and do some journaling on the ideas and quotes in this book.
