I'm definitely many years late to reading The Kite Runner but I'm so glad I did. It's been a long time since I've genuinely cried while reading a book, but The Kite Runner did it for me.

And oddly...I just don't have much to say about it.

But I do think my loss for words stems from the fact that I had no idea what The Kite Runner was about when I started it, and ended up being completely moved by it. Hosseini's writing is so vivid, his characters so real and flawed, and his themes so wonderfully executed. This is the kind of story where you feel like you're living these events through the characters.

If you can stomach the incredibly graphic violence and emotional pain, then I strongly recommend this book. My only complaint is the absolute overload of pain and tragedy...however, I can't complain that much because Hosseini is depicting a reality I have not faced. I wanted a bit more hope and relief, but I do understand Hosseini's choice not to sugarcoat things or make the ending unrealistic for the sake of neatly wrapping up his tale.

Harrowing, but beautifully done.

Such an amazing and epic story! So very beautiful and tragic and it had me gripped - literally could not put the book down. Was eager to know what happened to all the characters and was not left disappointed.

Very disturbing! An ugly and somewhat artificial book; however, I did learn bits about the culture, history, and religion of Afghanistan (yet would have been better off learning those from a nonfiction source). A compelling, if sickening, story with a narrative that exposes its own craft.
