By far Schwab's best book I've read. Great premise and excellent pacing, but lack of POC characters is very obvious and her female characters continue to be flat and uninteresting.

Like, we're really naming the seductress with persuasion and coercion powers Serena? And we're just going to blatantly reference the fact she's a siren? Wow, everything needs to be spelled out for me, huh.

That aside, the toxic doomed yaoi was, in fact, so extremely good I could almost forgive this book's crimes. Almost.

The premise and story were extremely unique. There really was no predicting what would happen in the end from any point of the book. Meaning that it is a really well written novel. There were about 6/7 times where I thought something occurred with finality to only find out pages later that the end result was quite different. Now, I wasn’t attached to any of the characters enough to cry at any of these points. The characters are from from lovable with the exception of Mitch. Even though I will definitely read the next book in the duology, for some reason I still don’t want to give it the full four stars. But I think it’s  because I almost didn’t care if I finished the book or not? Maybe because it was so dark most of the time.

I didn’t know what to expect but this was gripping, thrilling, so dark with so many twists and turns. Loved it!!!

This book is amazing. I’ve never read a book quite like it. The writing is fantastic, the characters are so complicated. And the fact that there are so many and each have their one well developed voice is amazing. This book really makes you think about morals whilst also feeling like a spin off of DC’s Jessica Jones. Fantastic. And the way this story comes full circle is just….chef’s kiss.
