I'm always looking for something fresh in the urban fantasy genre. I bought this book months ago as a sort of protest against a ridiculous bad review, but only recently finished reading it.

I prefer 1st person POV for UF, but the multiple 3rd person works better for this story, building the tension as the two main POV characters are working the same "case" from different directions. Good pacing, sympathetic characters, and a balance of real world and fantasy elements.

The ending is perfect for the first in a series. No cliff-hanger, but opens up the story world and characters for future books. I'm looking forward to the next book.

This is a re-write of a book I read several years ago under the original name "Rune & Claw (Adam Saint) by the same author (under the name Brian Castle). Anyway, so far 35% through, the characters seem to be the same and it is similar in nature but there are definitely changes in the story. It is still a good urban fantasy read and happy with it. The biggest bonus of this re-write is that there will be a sequel, which I always really wanted after reading the original. Yay!

I do have big issues with the cover. In fact the only things I like about the cover is that it is art, the general art-style, that it is not photo-shopped bought pics, that Adam Saint is in his "uniform", and they have action-type poses. Otherwise, I find the cover somewhat offensive. The biggest problem (for the publisher) is that it is a completely Hetero looking image. The female on the cover is way too up and center AND she's super-busty which I would hate no matter what. Don't like it, don't like it at all. Also, don't like that that the love interest, a male, isn't shown on the cover either. Even a cat standing curled up around Adam Saint would be something, not much but something. It would be better if he were standing behind Adam Saint with an arm curled around him.

I avoid most het. stories these days, but the busty female is a huge turn-off and doesn't fit the character in the story (that I can tell).
