Meg Cabot detective novel about am ex-teen pop sensation. I think that says enough.

4 STARS

"HEATHER WELLS ROCKS! Or, at least, she did. That was before she left the pop-idol life behind after she gained a dress size or two -- and lost a boyfriend, a recording contract, and her life savings (when Mom took the money and ran off to Argentina). Now that the glamour and glory days of endless mall appearances are in the past, Heather's perfectly happy with her new size 12 shape (the average for the American woman!) and her new job as an assistant dorm director at one of New York's top colleges. That is, until the dead body of a female student from Heather's residence hall is discovered at the bottom of an elevator shaft.

The cops and the college president are ready to chalk the death off as an accident, the result of reckless youthful mischief. But Heather knows teenage girls . . . and girls do not elevator surf. Yet no one wants to listen -- not the police, her colleagues, or the P.I. who owns the brownstone where she lives -- even when more students start turning up dead in equally ordinary and subtly sinister ways. So Heather makes the decision to take on yet another new career: as spunky girl detective!

But her new job comes with few benefits, no cheering crowds, and lots of liabilities, some of them potentially fatal. And nothing ticks off a killer more than a portly ex-pop star who's sticking her nose where it doesn't belong . . ." (From Amazon)

A dash of Stephanie Plum, Miss. Marple, Bridget Jones and Madonna makes up Heather Wells. Teen pop star turned college resident manager Heather is drawn into a murder mystery. If you are looking for a funny mystery I would highly recommend this series.

I really don't like this author's writing style, but I like the characters in this series. I've seen some of the movies that have been made from Meg Cabot's books and I have to say they are definitely better than the books, which is weird. At first I thought maybe she was British and I just didn't 'get' her writing style. That's not the case. She's an American. She uses far too many dashes in her writing -- something I'm not really too keen on to begin with ever since I decided when I was in college I'd major in English and then Broadcasting -- to make me happy.

Isn't that hard to read? Why separate the sentence like that??!! That whole "to make me happy" thing to finish the sentence ... grrrr ... by the time I read all that was between the dashes I have forgotten how the sentence even started!

I read the second book in the series (Size 14 Isn't Fat Either) before I read this one. I'm not sure if I'll read the third Heather Wells Mystery or not. Depends on how desperate I get, probably.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book but I was pleasantly surprised. The only problem I had was trying to determine if the songs were upbeat or a ballad.

I don't generally read mysteries and wasn't expecting to get one in this book based on the title and cover. This was a light, fun read, but I will probably skip the rest of the series. I enjoy Meg Cabot's books because they always make me laugh.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! This is my first Meg Cabot book, but for sure, I am going to read more. I love Ms. Cabot's writing style - it's wonderful! Heather Mills, a pop teen icon, who has just lost her record deal and her famous boy band boyfriend, is working as a resident assistant at New York College. After two deaths occur in her residence hall, Heather suspects foul play. She's right and in the end catches the murderer, with the help of Cooper, her ex's brother, with whom she lives. I am most definitely looking forward to the next book in this series! An excellent, funny and fast read!

I love Meg Cabot but I don't really read mysteries, so idk if this one was really for me. I liked the character of Heather enough to pick up the next one, though. Would be good for a school - some very PG romance (mentions of sex), drama and crime, and celebrity.

Cute, light, chick lit. I needed this kind of book after reading my last book. Likable characters, but I got really sick of the "not dorm, residence hall" line. That was getting on my nerves.
