Ugh. What a time machine this book is to early naught female aimed youth cozy mystery fiction.

Pretty much every racial, fat-phobic, gender based stereotype you can imagine was included in this book. These things made it very hard to read and finish. About 1/3 of the way in I was prepared to DNF the book, but finished only because I didn’t want to lose the time I had already invested in this toward mg reading goal for the year.

If a younger person wants to know what being a young girl was like in the early 2000’s, that is the only reason I can envision to read this book. It would be a great insight into the pressure and chaos of the times.

Heather is supposed to be 28 years old but her internal monologue is much more like that of a 15 year old. Given that is the age she was when she hit it “big” maybe this makes sense.

Definitely not interested in reading any more of this series.

It was a fun book. Different from anything I read, a mix of chick-lit and mystery. I enjoyed it enough to try the next book in the series.

What a fun read, I really ended up enjoying this one!!! Heather Wells is a former Teen Pop star, who has lost it all, her career, boyfriend and all of her money thanks to her Mother and her manager. She now works in a college dorm, oops, I mean residence hall. Girls start dying and Heather goes on the hunt for the truth. She is such a smart, funny character. I love the little voice that always speaks from inside her head!!!! Can't wait to see what happens to Heather and all of her gang next! I also love the underlying message she gives, that you don't have to be stick thin to be a great American girl!!!

Classic Meg Cabot writing. A fun, quick read!

Not a great book, but good for walking on the treadmill. I believe it too me about 23,000 steps to read this book. Over a couple of days.

2 1/2 stars

this was a re-read, and I'll still give it at least 4.5 stars for nostalgia and entertainment

Got this while I was on vacation and it was a great mindless read. It was basically like candy for the brain. Nothing super exciting or fabulous but just enough to make it readable and enjoyable.

I've always liked Meg Cabot books because they're usually quick but great reads, and this one was really no different. It's not my favorite Cabot, but this one is the first in a series and I enjoyed the characters enough to want to read more of her story.

This one started a little slow, almost like she wasn't quite sure where it was going--was this a self-discovery or primarily a murder mystery? But then once you get more into the book, it's a little bit of both. Heather Wells, the main character, is lovable and who constantly loves to remind herself "size 12 is the average American woman" so therefore she is average--NOT fat. Most authors write their heroine to be a plain girl who just happens to be a size two who is actually beautiful and doesn't realize it, so it was refreshing to have a slightly more normal person be the focus.

With all that said, I only gave this book a three, because as far as Meg Cabot's novels and the standards I hold them to, I know they can be better. I definitely recommend it for Meg Cabot fans or if someone just wants a quick, yet witty read!
