I wanted to love this book - it has everything I adore in a light read. A NON-skinny/perfect heroine, a cute cover that implies I'm going to be entertained and amused, and a first-person narrative which tends to draw me into a story... at least, it draws me in if the main character is funny, quirky, and intelligent, if not slightly neurotic. This book just didn't deliver for me. I found the narrator irritating at best and much of the narrative felt like way too much telling instead of letting me feel what was happening. I can see what some people get out of it, but having just come off a Sophie Kinsella binge, this was not smart or adorable enough to engage me at all.
A good read, easy to get into and the narration has cabot's humor all over it. Good summer read!
This is a cute chick-lit book with a side of mystery. Heather is a former pop singer who caught her fiance with another woman and whose mom ran off with her small fortune. She's now working as an assistant director at a residence hall at a college and is doing her best to leave her past behind her. I really enjoyed the fact that this girl isn't a whiner like so many chick lit princesses and is getting on with her life on her own terms. She's no longer a skinny young pop star and is living in a rented brownstone owned by her former fiance's gorgeous brother who dates size 2's and whom she has a hopeless crush on. When two female students die under mysterious circumstances in an elevator shaft, Heather is frustrated at the lack of the police action and takes matters into her own hands and starts snooping around putting her life in jeopardy as well.
This book is very much a fluff filled confection with a little side of mystery thrown in but the likable heroine makes it easy to turn the pages and I'll probably read the second book in the series if it falls into my hands.

I didn't know Meg Cabot wrote mystery! It was a fun light read to see a different story and style from Cabot who I haven't read from since "The Princess Diaries". I definitely appreciate the positive body image given as well because it is relevant more and more these days, as the book was written in 2006. It did take me a while to get into the story and am more interested if there will be another mystery and to see how Heather's life continuous in part 2
Meg Cabot reminds me of Sophie Kinsella with her quick, humorous writing. Size 12 is Not Fat was the first book I have read of Cabot's. It was a quick read that was exactly what I needed at the moment. Heather Wells reminds me of a bit of all of us...trying to make it and flubbing up along the way.
It was interesting but not compelling enough to read more in the series.

Cute and fun. I enjoyed it more than I thought.
I loved this book! I flew through it! Heather Wells is such a likable & relatable character, you know beside someone trying to kill her multiple times. I can't wait to get my hands on the second book!
