Didn't really expect much when I saw that Meg Cabot had written a detective book and mostly bought it because it was on sale. However, I found myself loving the book.
Heather Wells is a fun character who is well aware of her flaws. She is not a perfect heroine, she makes mistakes and doesn't alwats look like she walked out of a magazine. A normal girl, although with a not so normal background.
The plot itself could possibly be better, but it's a good book anyway. It will make you smile and at times suprise you. The ending was a surprise for sure.
If you are looking for an easily read book that has humour, love and some intrigue, this is the book for you.

Some of the writing in this is really repetitive - good Lord, the dorm/residence hall thing started to drive me crazy after a while - but this is probably the only chick-lit book I’ve really enjoyed in a long time. Possibly ever. Normally, I’m not a fan of the genre and the heroines, who are normally obsessed with either weight or fashion/shopping (or both), generally tend to annoy me. Oddly enough, I really liked Heather Wells, the heroine of this book. The mystery was kind of weak - I suspected the killer really early on - and it seems odd to me that everyone else in the book was so dismissive of the student deaths, but overall I enjoyed Meg Cabot’s writing style and humor. I was a bit disappointed that this wasn’t a romance and, as such, didn’t have the HEA that I was hoping for. However, I liked it enough to continue on with the series and I’ll be rooting for Heather to finally get her man.
