This is quite a funny romance! The premise and setup is ridiculous in the best way. The absurdity of what they do in this fake engagement to pretend (especially to be pregnant) is hilarious.

Because these are two quite literal strangers who agree to fake-be-engaged it works that there's quite a bit of animosity between them which makes for some delicious tension that also feels pretty real, and not too over the top. The spice was overall great! I def wish I could continue with the series but the rest of the audios aren't on Libby

A Not So Meet Cute is the first book of the Cane Brothers series by Meghan Quinn. It is a super cute and easy-reading contemporary romance. It’s witty and has some spice and is overall a lighthearted read.

I liked Lottie right off the bat. But Huxley, well, it took some time for him to win me over. I love the bond Lottie has with her sister and that Huxley has with his brothers. I enjoyed the banter between Lottie and Huxley. Their journey from despising each other to acknowledging their real feelings for each other is a fun one.

This is an enjoyable and quick read and I will definitely be continuing the series.

This was my first Meghan Quinn book, and I'm honestly not sure if I'll read another.

First, the writing style took some getting used to. The weird almost fourth-wall-breaking inner monologuing was unusual.

Second, if Lottie and Huxley didn't constantly have sex, would they really even be together? My guess is no.

Third, I hated Huxley. He was a prick. Even if he did nice things, he also did some super shitty things that Lottie quickly forgave him for when she remembered how good he is in bed.

Fourth, speaking of Huxley again, the man is controlling and I was sad to see the spitfire Lottie submit to it so easily.

The only redeeming qualities were the birthing classes, which were truly hilarious. The only saving grace for this book.

Ugh, I can’t believe I actually made it through this. The toxicity abounds! Possibly billionaire romances are not for me if they’re all like this. The primary relationship was toxic from the start and never seemed to find solid foundational ground. Even secondary characters like Kelsey (sister) were hot on the gaslighting. Telling her sister to be thankful when the man she’s working/living with is acting like an actual troll? Not okay. The story lacked a lot of the believable magic of an enemies to lovers story; MQ can write a spicy scene, but I feel like that was one of the only redeeming qualities. Maybe I’m being too harsh, but this story felt like it had so much potential at the beginning and I just didn’t feel like it delivered.
