What a great book! It is very well written and narrated. It's definitely an easy read. It's not too heavy, but it's still very rich with material.

Highly recommend as a nice little palette cleanser. The vibes are fantastic, and I'll definitely be reading the rest of the books in this series!

I really truly believe I missed what people loved about this book.
The characters are bland, even when we get character development. It remains limited to the shallow mindedness of the perspective characters. I didn’t feel a connection between the Payne and Beau, their relationship stayed surface level until the end.
I have an issue with characters that know they need to fix something before they pursue the main love interest. Payne consistently brushes it off and it was annoying to read.
Story wise it does the job. The only issue is the lack of conflict that throughout the book. There are no plot twists, no revelations and nothing I haven’t read in COUNTLESS YA books. It read as a poorly written YA plot with spice and adult themes.
The entirety of the conflicts that do come into play, are resolved almost immediately, or are forgotten about until their convenient reappearance.
Also the spice is okay, it wasn’t that great though, I could be biased since I didn’t like the characters or feel a real connection between them as previously stated. Perhaps i could have enjoyed it more otherwise.
I, however, lost interest quite quickly and only continued because I have heard great things about the series as a whole. Regardless of my wanting to DNF
I hope to continue the series after this one, but will not hesitate to DNF them if they follow similar irks as this one.

Hmm I dunno, as much as I like jealous and possessive scenes it didn't quite sit well with me... but positives first:

What I liked:
+ I would SO read the hell out of Beau's book series.
+ Kyle getting put in his place is so satisfying yet part of me wishes he suffered more.
Spoiler Absolutely despicable, not only cheating but PROFITING off it for TWO YEARS. Kyle, die in a ditch.

+ there were definitely cute moments (like colouring tattoos but also I hope it was non toxic ink lol)

What I disliked:
- as I said jealousy is fun and

Definitely a first book in the series but I liked it!

Overall reco:
When I read the prequel novella I wasn't sure about the series. I don't know why I got that vibe considering that I've enjoyed just about everything else that James has put out. The first few pages totally captured me and I was down to follow Payne's ride.
Beau was quirky and cute in the way the neurodivergent people are. I didn't exactly have an issue with how he was portrayed. And I'm find with how Payne felt that the quirkiness was adorable. Thats fine. Man can have opinions. I was annoyed by his response to Beau's asking for help navigating social situations. I have a long bitter rant that sits inside of me that I'm going to hold back about Neurotypical people telling Neurodivergent people to 'just be themselves'.
Anyho.. I enjoyed it. Spice was spicy, characters were interesting, length felt really good.
