4.5⭐️ I really enjoyed this sweet, low-angst “brother’s best friend” romance. I adored Beau—the quirky, anxious author who’s been in love with his brother’s best friend since they were kids. Payne went through a nasty divorce and moved in with Beau while trying to put his life back together.

I love stories that begin with devastation and heartache and show the slow emotional healing process and the growth of new love. I also love reading about characters finding love later in life. It was heartwarming that Payne found friendship and support with other divorced men.

This was my first book by Saxon James and the writing was very good. I can’t wait to read the rest of the Divorced Men series.

I loved this book! Wonderful story about starting over and found family. The story between the 2 main characters is so sweet (but with lots of spice). I love that it is the start of a series so you can fall in love with not only the MC's but the town and all the people around because you know you will see them again!

Payne is 40 and has to start over. He finds out his ex-husband is cheating on him, in one of the worst ways possible no less. He packs a bag and leaves immediately to head back to his hometown. He moves in with his younger brothers best friend, Beau. Beau is a bit quirky. He's completely chaotic and basically needs a someone to help organize his life. This is a mutually beneficial situation that turns into attraction, and eventually more.

This is a sweet story with that gives lots of laughs, snarky texts, and low angst.

Super sweet, happy, and genuine, what else can you expect from Saxon?! I really liked Beau as a character, his brain works just like mine sometimes. Here let me drop this bomb I just remembered because we are quiet in bed, goodnight! I like the DMC characters enough to consider moving forward with this series when I need some fluff.

Payne and Beaux

PLEASE be aware that this review is meant for my own purposes only in order to help me recall this book and is in no way a reflection of what I think anyone else will like or want out of a book. It is simply a memory aid and a rough voice-to-text which is completely unedited/reviewed for errors. Read at your own discretion.

When 40 yo Payne discovers that his husband of eight years has been cheating on him and doing only fans for two years, he leaves Boston to go home to his small town of Kilber. He shows up with no job and no money, and his brother has the idea of letting him stay with his best friend Beaux. Beaux has been secretly in love with Payne since he was a teen, but is happy to let him stay with him. Beaux is a successful author of fantasy novels, but is neurotic flighty and a little bit nuts. He is adorable. Payne is a PE teacher by trade, but ends up working in Ford’s garage. Beaux and Payne begin hooking up, but soon Payne develops real feelings. He is hesitant to jump into a new relationship since he is in the middle of a divorce.
Eventually, he gets closure with his ex and starts a new relationship with Beaux. he moves out and buys a large pot of land to start a adventure park. Of course, it all works out.
This is a sweet book and I like that the characters are older, but I don’t really connect with either snd feel like the emotions aren’t particularly deep.

This was cute enough.
It was sweet at times, a bit sad at times and very sexy.
However, I thought that there was something missing that I couldn't really put my finger on.

The characters are lovabale but a bit superficial. We don't get ro delve into their backstory and personality. For example, after Payne's cheating it makes sense that he is quick to trust, fearful of another cheating partner. But that didn't come up at all. Payne and Beau never address that and it felt kind of important to do so, or to acknowledge it in some way especially since they went
Spoiler bareback f4om the get go
.

Tiny details like that made me not love this book as much as I had hoped I would.

That and the fact that we don't get to see them together after they both acknowledge that they want to be together, which is in the very last chapter. Then the Epilogue is 1 year later and we don't get to experience the relationship development at all...that made the book feel very rushed as well.

I also didn't like the fact that
SpoilerPayne didn't want to marry Beau because of what his ex did. It doesn't make sense to generalize and take that decision imo.

too cheesy, but still a fun time

What a read! Or journey, I should say. A well-written story with relatable characters and realistic life experiences (divorce being one of them). You go through the entire ordeal with Payne. And Beau - well, his habit of getting so caught up in what he is doing that he loses his sense of time is something I could be accused of as well.

Their story and path to love is not instant (although attraction could be ;)) - No. It is real. It is slower and closer to real life than that. You will love these two... the comedy, the romance, the supporting characters (family and friends). This book has the whole package.

Great job to this author! I loved this one. Great start to the "Club"! I can't wait for the next book...

Beau and Payne make the perfect couple. I love watching their relationship grow and so excited for the rest of the books in this series.
