I enjoyed The End zone better than this one, I think and that's because I just never really felt the chemistry between Lucky and Saint.
I liked Saint as a character, for the most part. My issue is that a lot of his story is actually Alice's story. We don't get that much of his life back in L.A. or much about his life beyond his relationships with his father and Alice. In fact, we get so much of Alice's story that I was actually thinking I would've rather read a story about her.
Lucky as a character was a little bit more fleshed out than Saint and I don't know if that's because the story took place in his home? Or maybe because it was about how Saint fit into Lucky's life, not the other way around?
Anyway, there's a lot of telling, rather than showing. We hear that they talked all night and learned about each other more than we actually get to read those parts.
There was this weird attempt at enemies to lovers that never really worked because they’d say rude things to each other and apologize seconds later. So, their animosity never really festered into anything that really made them “enemies”.
Honestly, similar to End Game (End Zone?) but somehow worse, the dialogue was the biggest drawback for me in this one. There were times Lucky or Saint would "laugh so hard their stomach hurt" over lines that weren't funny? And the dialogue during the sex scenes felt strangely clinical to me. Or, maybe like the kind of chat logs you read when people RP online.
Anyway, I appreciate that this book made more of an effort to discuss racism and how that compacts homophobia and Alice's decisions in the past. Saint and Alice were interesting characters, so those were the positives in this one for me.

A story about an elderly Black queer woman who's been in love with her white best friend for decades. Surviving the estrangement from her son and so happy to finally meet her grandson after years of shouldering guilt and regret. That would've been really interesting to read about.Lucky as a character was a little bit more fleshed out than Saint and I don't know if that's because the story took place in his home? I have been saturated with #smut lately trying to get through my personal goal before going to @wildandwindybookevent Vegas. So I went into this expecting just another dirty romance…it was so much more heartwarming and I truly fell in love with the family dynamics. A sweet book with a dreamy romance 🥰 3 ⭐️ 3.5 🌶️

Lucky and Saint. They say opposites attract and this is definitely one of those stories.
Saint is from LA, cocky, arrogant and loves to get laid. But when he gets an email from Tyler saying his Grandma is still alive, his world turns upside down.
It’s the story of friendship, family, past regrets and love.
The story goes deeper as Saint gets to know his Grandma Alice. But she has lived a life of pain and regret! And her beautiful words stay with us all...
“If there’s anything I want you to take from my life and my mistakes, it’s to grab on to who you love and hold on with all your might. Don’t ever let go. Don’t ever let someone say you can’t or shouldn’t love another person. Don’t let something like distance come between you. You just love them and love them well. Treat them right. Do good by them and make sure they do good by you.”
This book captured my heart, I fell in love with Saint and Lucky. And also Alice and Helen (Lycky’s grandma) the love of those two ladies showed these two boys to love unconditionally and believe in them!

3-3.5 stars
because apparently when i can't find anything to read i just go back to what puts me in a slump haha
i didn't think i would start these books since i have read a lot of riley hart these days but apparently i don't know when to stop.
this was a good read, it did kinda lull towards the end but i enjoyed this story of Lucky and Saint. there wasn't anything too special about it. i do still enjoy riley harts writing, i think i would have loved it more if i gave myself a break from riley harts work but apparently i love to not listen to my voice of reason lol... soo on to book two.. maybe i have seen mixed reviews on book two hahah
