Our London Lives is a story told in dual timelines and POVs. It tells the tale of Millie, who immigrated from Ireland to England at eighteen for reasons we come to learn. And Pip, a recovering alcoholic with a mysterious and tragic past, which is also slowly revealed to the reader.

The characters are compelling and for the first half of the book, I was intrigued. However, this book is 500 pages long and is in dire need of a ruthless editor in my opinion. While wonderfully written, there is a lot of superfluous text to wade through, that does not propel the plot in any way. Having some meandering paragraphs in a novel is fine, but when a novel is already several hundred pages long, it just feels a little overkill.

All that being said, Millie and Pip are characters I won't forget in a hurry. Millie's story in particular showcases a dark part of history and the mistreatment of women. The reveal relating to Pip's past broke my heart too.

I was honoured to receive an advanced copy of this book. It will be released in September 2024.
