This was absolutely brilliant. This is the perfection of the graphic novel. It is such a raw and complicated and heart wrenching account of not only Artie's father's experiences during the holocaust, but of their relationship. I especially enjoyed the parts in the second volume where Artie ruminates about guilt and survival and what it really means to tell a story like this. Incredible. Please read this if you haven't yet.

Es una historia muy conmovedora, me ha llevado de una página a la siguiente desde la primera viñeta. Tanto las ilustraciones como la historia que cuenta son maravillosas.

Maus
is the word for word result of an interview Spiegelman had with his father Vladek Spiegelman who was a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp. The novel follows two main story lines, the main plot which is the Vladek interviews about his life from 1935-1946, and the secondary plot which largely focuses on the relationship strain between Art Spiegelman and his father. Each is gripping and powerful in its own way, and neither feels like its interrupting nor taking away from the other, making for a perfectly paced book that never drags. Existing as a masterpiece in every medium it covers. It is beautifully written, it is incredibly drawn, and it has some of the best graphic formatting I've ever seen. This work is the best way to convince someone to take graphic novels seriously as a medium to tell stories. There is no way this could have been given to us with such perfection, had it been presented in any other format. Easily one of the greatest pieces of modern literature, that is a must read for everyone, ever.
