Maus II is what I love and can handle in experimental books that I don’t appreciate in film.
Him talking to his therapist, showing his dad’s racism. His struggle with what to write and including the real life images and call-outs of what to draw his converted wife as.
This all adds a depth that makes this story even more human, terrible, and powerful.

As a Jewish reader, holocaust stories tend to be a little too raw for me. I would like to finish this eventually but right now it is just too emotional

I originally learnt about this book because of the possible banning it was going through. I'm not a huge fan of comics and graphic novels, but this one is a masterpiece, and I think everyone should read it if they have the opportunity. It's a great way to learn about the Holocaust from a survivor's perspective.

It's a fast read, it felt like I was breezing through it. I also loved the meta aspect of it, with the author showing his struggles while writing this book, and leaving in the crankiness of his father, even if it makes him, at times, unlikable.

I found myself having a difficult time with the father son relationship. Both Flawed and traumatized people for obvious reasons. Found myself wishing that the focus was more heavily focused on the fathers retelling of events rather than the fallout from a damaged person raising a child. I supposed illuminating the generational effects of trauma is important, but had a hard time resonating with or feeling much empathy for the son.

This book is a masterpiece. The Holocaust is something no one would ever truly be able to put into words but Art does the best job anyone could. It’s real, emotional and educational. The art is great, the symbolism is powerful and it tackles a very difficult topic very well. This book should never ever be banned; it is one of the most important books ever written

The easiest 5star I have given in a while. What an incredible work and such a powerful exploration of both history and family relationships, generational trauma and also hope.
As powerfully illustrated as it is written. This is a must read.
