How come for social animals, we can only recognise social evils when it hits us but never when it hurts others?

The easiest 5star I have given in a while. What an incredible work and such a powerful exploration of both history and family relationships, generational trauma and also hope.
As powerfully illustrated as it is written. This is a must read.

Overall, interesting biography. I thought it was unique to use mice as the character avatar, and using other animals to depict the different nationalities. The story itself was slow to medium-paced, I would say, with pages filled with words. I understand that the author may have tried to depict the familial interactions as true to life as possible, but boy do I get annoyed by how Art treats his dad.

Also, the font of the text makes it difficult to discern some words throughout the book.

Maus is a beautiful graphic biography of Art Speigelman's father's experience during the holocaust as a survivor. This book is just stunning and every single person on this Earth has to read this book. I personally believe it should be made essential reading due to how important these topics are. The book is also not trying to glorify his father, even though he was a survivor, he is still flawed. Most history textbooks will only share an experience by the mass, but this is a personal experience that has such significant impact.

An absolutely essential read for everyone. It is incredibly dark and hard to stomach at times, but crucial to read. The lessons the book shares about the Holocaust, how fascism and genocide begin, and even intergenerational trauma are still extremely relevant and important for everyone to internalize.
