The plot and the world building was so intriguing and really gripped me! I am excited and want to continue the series for that, but there were some elements that kept me from rating it higher.

I liked the characters (some definitely more than others), but didn’t particularly love any of them and Scarlett & her attitude bugged me/gave me whip lash lol. All their secrets were interesting and added to their character dimension for sure, but the reference to them constantly among all the characters as stuff they “couldn’t say” was a tad annoying.

There were also some conflicts with Sorin that she was so tunnel vision on labeling as “lying to her” and “betraying” her, but if she truly listened to him would have realized she was being so dramatic. She doesn’t like him, then she likes him. She loves him then one tiny thing is said/done and she hates him/doesn’t like him again. Was kind of exhausting to read through.

And plot-wise/their war history-wise there were some things that seemed to go over my head or that I had thought were already introduced one way and then were explained slightly different later on (though that could totally be a me issue

Was a bit hard to follow (audiobook). Might have to try reading when not busy.

This was an interesting story I just found myself being so frustrated at it. One second I was eating it up and the next I was tossing it aside in anger. Scarlett is sooooooooo annoying, she always had this victim mentality but come on girl you are deaths maiden. One of the toughest people around and you’re letting men cage you? Men? Really? She was so close minded and the constant talk of Soren lying to her when he had told her she was far from chapters earlier and she didn’t ask any questions about it! She appears so smart but doesn’t think man. Why did she keep panicking at the worse possible moments, like girl read the room, it’s escaping time, freak out time is later ! I loved Sorin though and it was pretty obvious he was the fire prince.

This series had hints of some of my favorite series so I thought I would give it a try. I'm so glad I did. The story has been fun even if a bit predictable. Reading the author's connection to the characters was even more captivating. I'm excited to see where Scarlett's adventures take us.

It was EXACTLY like throne of glass but badly written. There was no character development outside of dialogue.

I have so many questions…
1. How is this book rated so highly?
2. How did I survive 19 hours of this book?
3. Why have I seen people post this is their favorite fantasy series?

Where do I even start??? First of all I was honestly torn between a 1 and a 2 star review. I was bored to tears the entire time I was reading this…and I read the entire book HOPING it would eventually get better because I never DNF a book. It honestly comes off as a knock off TOG. It felt like not much was happening and yet not enough the entire book.

The main character, Scarlett, is hardly likable even knowing why she shaped by her past. She was dull and lacked personality. Yet somehow…she has 3 men in love with her? Two princes and an evil lord? Possibly even her BFF who could very possibly also love her? How? And to be frank, I didn’t connect to any of the characters or even feel like most of the characters had any chemistry other than the author telling me that they did.

Scarlett and her sisters are the most lethal assassins known and feared by all…and yet they are captured not once but twice? The main character also gets so gravely injured at the end that she can hardly walk or talk, blood is gushing out of her side for days and then on the third day (with NO healing) she is able to have “the spiciest scene” (which still isn’t spicy) with her love interest who she supposedly hates? What? Brink of death to sexually intimate?

Lastly *spoiler* the big “Oh my god” shocker moment at the end was so predictable I guessed it within the first 10 chapters.

This book just was not for me.

This one was another surprise. I went into the story with low expectations. Yet I found that the story had its moments. Waiting to read the next one.
